    *Attention GCMS Students and Staff:

October is a GREAT time to get vaccinated against the Influenza virus. Getting your vaccination is easy and quick and if you plan it well, it won't cost you anything. We want to keep everyone at GCMS healthy this year, so for those who get vaccinated by the end of October, here's an extra incentive -  Bring proof of vaccination to the GCMS office and register for prizes to be given away on November 1. Only GCMS students and staff who get a vaccination before the end of October are eligible and you must bring proof to the office - this could be a receipt, a note from your doctor, or even a selfie of you and the nurse while you get the vaccination! Bring it to the office and register to be in the drawing! Some cash prizes, some gift certificates - even food! Let's work together to keep GCMS healthy this flu season!

*Do you LOVE trivia games and questions?  Are you a math wiz, a history buff, a sports facts fan?  Then you may want to join the Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl team!!! It is open to any student! Have fun spending time with friends while competing online and representing your school! The online computer contest is 100 multiple-choice questions. Areas covered include math, geography, government, sports, spelling, science, literature, English, history, general information and just plain fun trivia. It is meant to be a team activity with all players around one computer. Two chances to answer correctly are given. Points are awarded based on how fast questions are answered as well as on accuracy. Therefore, teams who do well usually are teams who can come up with a consensus answer quickly. There are different contests for each grade; one for 5th, one for 6th, one for 7th and one for 8th.  The 5th and 6th grade contests will start on November 4th. The 7th and 8th grade contests start on November 11th. That will give us about one month to meet for a few practices. If you are interested in being on a team, please let Mrs. Cunningham know or sign up in the office. Thanks! See you soon!

Week three of the Healthy State Initiative focuses on limiting screen time to 2 or less hours a day.  Children who spend less time watching TV tend to do better in school, have a healthier diet, and are more physically active when they are older. Too much screen time puts kids at risk for lower reading scores, attention problems, and problems learning. Screen time includes time spent watching tV, playing video games, using a computer, and using mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.  Keep track of your screen time and see if you keep it under 2 hours.

*The 7th & 8th grade football team should be dismissed at 2:30  to leave on the bus at 2:45 for the game at Roland-Story.

*7 & 8th grade wrestling sign up forms are in the office. If you are interested in wrestling please see Kate for an apparel form for your warm up gear. There will be a parent meeting October 21st with the 1st day of practice starting on October 29th. All apparel orders are due the first day of practice. Wrestling fan apparel order forms will be available in the office at a later date.

*Please dismiss cross country runners at 1:15, bus will leave at 1:30.
