"Adulting" Event at GCHS
Greene County High School students in grades 9-11 were treated to some "adulting" for an afternoon on May 29th. Volunteers from the community came to the high school to offer sessions that will help prepare students for life after high school. Students were able to choose from 20 different sessions. Topics covered in these sessions were basic home repair, gardening, understanding insurance, personal finance, renting do's and don'ts, stress management through yoga, exercise tips, photography, self defense, taxes, locating important documents for work and travel, sewing, easy cooking, clothing and organization, human trafficking, citizen involvement, chiropractic care and healthy living, community volunteerism, basic construction, and personal safety.
Greene County High School students and staff want to thank the following community volunteers for their time and expertise: Laurie Walker, Andrew Chapman, Kenna Marquardt, Bob Allen, Craig Marquardt, Chad Black, Simeon Lang, Bonnie Silbaugh, Tom Kennedy, Mary Pedersen, Phil Heisterkamp, Megan Carman, Thomas Laehn, Peg Raney, Scott Weber, Taylor Hardin, Katlynn Mechealsen, Margaret Saddoris, Dan Methayler, Maria Tasler, Cole Jackson, and Jeff Lamoureux.
At the end of each session, students gave written feedback. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, and the committee members who worked to put this event together are planning to hold another "adulting" activity next year that will also include members of the senior class. Community members who would be willing to host an "adulting" session next year can call the high school at 386-2188 to leave a message for Deb Marquardt, Kelley Gray, Luke Boyd, Allison Wenck, or Pat Heinrichs.
