FFA

The Greene County FFA Chapter from Jefferson competed in the annual Iowa FFA Food Science Career Development Event held at Iowa State University on June 16, 2022. Members of the team included: Kaitlin Fields, Grace Curtis, and Emma Halterman. Their agriculture education instructor and FFA advisor is Ms. Raelyn Harris.


FFA teams from 19 chapters participated in this year's Career Development Event designed to provide the student an opportunity to display their agricultural knowledge and skills in the area of Food Science. The 70 individuals who participated in the event completed several activities including demonstration of skills and problem solving in dealing with consumer concerns, food safety and sanitation, aroma identification, taste testing, and product differences. A written examination was included along with a team product development competition. The Greene County FFA team took fifth place gold rating overall  with Grace Curtis earning sixth as an individual.

The Iowa FFA Food Science Career Development Event was coordinated and conducted by Dr. Terri Boylston, and numerous other faculty and staff with the Iowa State University Department of Food Science & Human Nutrition in Ames. The Iowa FFA Food Science Career Development Event was made possible with support through the Iowa FFA Foundation Gold Standard Donors.
