During the 2018-19 school year, Landus made a commitment to the Greene County Community School District and the Career Academy to pledge $50,000 over a five-year time period. Today marks the completion of the donation commitment from Landus and an acceptance of $10,000 in matching funds from CHS. The Greene County Community School District has been incredibly appreciative of the support and commitment from Landus over the past five years and moving forward into the future. Plans are being made to have high school students participate in a field trip to visit Landus’ Innovation Connector in Des Moines in the very near future to learn and understand how Landus participates in businesses beyond agriculture. The Greene County Community School District wants to thank Sue Tronchetti, External Affairs, and Delbert Uhlik, Jefferson Hub Lead, for their support and commitment to the students and programs at Greene County.

Chef D and the Greene County Career Academy culinary students prepared homemade soups today. Students Sophie Kirk, Cassie Knight, and Afton Poldberg enjoyed crab bisque and loaded baked potato soups.
Iowa Central invites students to come to the Triton Visit Day on Friday, November 3rd. Iowa Central is giving away a full tuition scholarship, a $1500 tuition scholarship and a $500 scholarship. First Career Exploration Camp of the 2023-2024 School Year!
Last week, we hosted our first Career Exploration Camp of the 2023-2024! The first strand is culinary where the youth learned about making nutritious snacks, basic knife cutting skills, hand washing, the difference between a chef vs. a cook, and the different herbs and spices they can use to enhance the flavor of their food. They made pizza crackers, fruit pizza, and veggie pizza using their newly learned skills!
There is still room in the camp next Thursday, September 21st, for youth in grades 4-8. Please call ISU Extension's Samantha Hardaway at 515.386.2138 to register.
Production Welding Class is a Go!
The Production Welding class is a "go" here at the Greene County Career Academy in Jefferson. We do have a few spots if you are interested. Classes start on September 26th and run through November 16th. Classes will be held Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Iowa Central's Abby Underberg and Sara Scharf met with our online and concurrent students this afternoon in the Greene County High School Auditorium. Their goal is to make sure these students are successful this year with their Iowa Central classes.
Greene County Career Academy health care students are really proud of their work today in their Human Anatomy and Physiology I class! This lab reinforced learning about body cavities, directional planes and cuts, organs, organ systems, and lab procedures.
If you were unable to attend Wednesday's Career Academy orientations, we invite you to attend orientation Monday, August 21st, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. We will go over valuable information, hand out your career academy schedule, show you how to look at your grades, get you signed up for text messaging from the college, and answer any questions you may have.

Business Horizons is a five-day innovation simulation bringing students (grades 9-12) of all experience levels from across the state together to gain a better sense of how their skills connect to the business world and the real world. Students are placed in teams, and they work together to solve a situation.

These students just completed a career pathway in the Greene County Career Academy. We celebrated together with a breakfast this morning. We discussed senior scholarships, work-based learning scholarships, and seniors wearing a blue cord at graduation representing a completed pathway. We also discussed pathways for next year and orientation for the fall with the underclassmen. Thank you to these students for a great year!
Twelve students in grades 4-8 joined us for a pizza session on Monday, April 24th. Chef Julie Kennedy, Ram Restaurant's Seth Stucky, and ISU Extension's Samantha Hardaway helped the students prepare pizza crackers, a veggie pizza, and a fruit pizza.
Seth Stucky is a freshman at Greene County Schools, and he did a great job working with our students in the two culinary career exploration camps.
This camp flew by and the students could not believe it was time to go at the end of class.

Iowa Central is happy to announce that we are offering a Certified Nurse Aide course at the Greene County Career Academy in Jefferson from June 7th to July 27th. Classes will meet from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

Iowa Central representatives joined us today from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. to help seniors register for Iowa Central college classes for next school year. Sara Scharf, Director of High School Partnerships, and Stephanie Evenson, Admissions Representative, helped our students get signed up for the classes they want and need.

Twelve students in grades 4-8 joined us for an education career exploration camp on March 27th. Deb Marquardt teaches the education/paraeducator career pathway in our Greene County Career Academy, and she joined with ISU's Samantha Hardaway to lead this camp.
We started by having the book "People Who Work in Our School" read to them. We identified the people in our school who do the many jobs that make our schools successful.
Students were then asked to think of a favorite school person who has made an impact in their lives. They were given eight strips of paper to write positive comments. These strips were then folded up and put into a thank-you jar which the students designed. We had stickers, ribbons, flowers, and bows for them to decorate their thank-you jar. Students took this home with them to deliver to their favorite person today.
Students then had some physical activity by playing "May I Cross the Ocean" with Samantha Hardaway.
We are offering culinary career exploration camps in April. Students in grades 1-3 will be on April 17th which is ISU Extension Week, and students in grades 4-8 will be on April 24th. Sign up by calling ISU Extension at 515.386.2138.
