Ten students in grades four through eight participated in the health-care career exploration camp held after school at the Greene County Career Academy on Monday, February 27th. Shelby Cooklin and Deb Wolterman from Greene County Public Health facilitated several activities for this group. Students got to learn about CPR and the AED device and then put into practice what they learned by doing CPR and using the AED device on the manikins. This was a highlight for the students, and they did a great job. February is National Heart Association Month, and students learned several pieces of important information to help improve their lifestyle. We start each camp out with healthy snacks to get them in the mindset for healthy eating. They discussed ways to keep moving, what to eat, and how to reduce stress. They used the pulse oxygen meter before and after exercise to see how their pulse rate goes up and down with activity. March is the education/paraeducator career pathway for students. To register, please contact ISU Extension Youth Director Samantha Hardaway at 515.386.2138.
