We are so excited to introduce our new Special Education Teacher, Mrs. Rita Rasmussen!
Mrs. Rasmussen brings an incredible 25 years of experience as a classroom and music teacher with Des Moines Public Schools. This year, she’s especially excited to work with the students and families right here in the town she calls home—plus, she definitely won’t miss her 150-mile daily commute to Des Moines! 🚗💨
Teaching has always been her passion, because she believes learning is the BEST kind of fun. She loves helping young children become the best version of themselves, and to her, teaching isn’t just a job—it’s a full-hearted commitment. 💛
Some fun facts about Mrs. Rasmussen:

🍿 Favorite snack: Popcorn (you can never have enough!)
🐶 Pets: Two adorable dogs, Laddie and Bandit 🐾
🏃 Fun fact: She ran the very first mile for the women’s track team in her high school in South Dakota and held the record for a year!
🚶 When she’s not at school: You’ll find her out walking her dogs with her husband, Mark.

Ms. David attended UNI and has worked with kids of all ages, most often in nonprofit settings. She’s looking forward to getting to know our students and their unique personalities, and she chose this career path to continue working with kids while becoming more involved in our community. 💚

We’re excited to welcome Missy Schmidt as one of our new Special Education Teachers!
Ms. Schmidt brings a wealth of experience, having taught Special Education in the Central Springs School District in Nora Springs, IA, 5th grade in Albert Lea, MN, and 3rd grade in Glendale, AZ. She earned her undergraduate degree from Mankato State University, her Master’s from Southwest State University in Marshall, MN, and most recently obtained her Special Education endorsement from Morningside University in Sioux City, IA.
This year, she’s most excited about collaborating with her new colleagues to help students grow both academically and socially. She chose teaching to make a positive impact on the world—because teaching helps build every future profession! 💚

Ms. Rothmeyer earned her Bachelor’s degree from the College of Saint Mary in Omaha and her Master’s degree from the University of Nebraska Omaha. She taught for one year in Council Bluffs, Iowa, before moving to our community.
She’s most excited to meet and get to know the Greene County staff, families, and students this year! Inspired by the amazing educators she had growing up, Ms. Rothmeyer chose teaching so she could help students foster a love for learning and experience the joy of watching them grow throughout the year. 💚

We’re excited to welcome Tish Harmeyer to the Greene County Elementary team as a special education associate!
Mrs. Harmeyer is a graduate of Southern Cal High School and attended DMACC. She’s looking forward to working in a fast-paced environment alongside a great staff and meeting lots of amazing kids this year!
She chose this career path because she was seeking a role that would give her purpose and allow her to truly make a difference in the lives of others. 💚

We’re so excited to welcome Dawn Cowles (Ms. Cowles) as our new 1st Grade Teacher at Greene County Elementary!
Born and raised in Ames, Iowa, Ms. Cowles earned her first degree in Apparel Design from Iowa State University in 1995. Later, she returned to school and received her Elementary Teaching degree from the University of Northern Iowa in May 2025. She also brings 9 years of experience from a private school in Ames.
She’s most excited to join the Rams community and can’t wait to meet her 1st grade students and families. She looks forward to teaching, learning, and growing together—while seeing her students’ smiling faces every day!
Her journey to teaching is an inspiring one. After working in schools and subbing in 2020, she quickly knew that teaching was her calling. Encouraged by her family and driven by a passion for helping children (inspired in part by her own kids’ experiences in school), she went back to college to pursue her dream—and now she’s here at GCE!

PE has always been Mr. Davis' favorite subject, and his strong passion for fitness and working with kids made this the perfect career path for him. 💪
