GCMS participated in The Battle of the Books again this year where students form teams and read the Iowa Teen Award Books. They read all the books as a group, studied and worked together to pass an online test to qualify for the Grand Battle. This year one team made it again! The 6th grade team "The Council of Cheesemon." Franklin, Sam, Ethan, Alyvia, Elijah, and Cooper will go to Ames on April 28th to compete once more against 15 other teams for the chance to be the ultimate winners and score our school the next set of Iowa Award books. All teams will get to meet an author of one of the books they read! Go Readers!!

The following students participated in the ICDA Central District Honor Choir last Friday: Delaney P., Estella K., Clarissa R., Misha R., Tayleigh T., Mya W., Aidan D, Jonah G., Grace H., Samantha P., Becca S., Mila S., Abi S., Quincy R., Ezra W., and Nora K. These kids were selected based on musical skill and behavior. At the event, auditions were held for small-group parts, and Greene County students were among those selected- Sam P. in the 5/6 choir and Mya W., and Misha R., in the 7/8 choir!

Over spring break, many of the Greene County 6th grade students chose to participate in a reading challenge created by Mrs. Gerzema and sponsored by Chirp. Thanks to the kind donations of t-shirts, cups, gift cards, and tumblers by Chirp, these dedicated students walked away with some pretty sweet prizes for reading over the break. Way to go, kids, and thanks again, Chirp!
