Our 6th grade team represented GCMS so well at the Battle of the Books yesterday! While we didn’t place high enough to bring home a trophy, they competed right alongside the top half of teams and had an outstanding day. Out of nearly 40 teams, finishing somewhere in the top 6–10 across the three testing rounds is something to be proud of!

Beyond the competition, it was a great experience meeting other teams and seeing their creativity. Most importantly, our students were kind, respectful, and truly represented GCMS in the best way.

A special thank you to Mrs. Powers for sponsoring this incredible opportunity for our students!

A big thank you to everyone who supported our Battle of the Books teams throughout the year—especially those who allowed students to meet during reading interventions and encouraged them to keep reading. Their dedication paid off, and I know they’re already excited for next year!

Great job, GCMS!

📼🎧 Teacher Appreciation Week is going FULL 90’s and we are HERE for it! 🎉

Next week, we’re celebrating our amazing teachers and staff with some totally rad throwback fun! 🕺💿 Check out the attached dress-up days and encourage your student to join in as we show our appreciation in true 90’s style.

Our teachers go above and beyond every single day, and while this week is a fun way to celebrate them, it’s just a small glimpse of how much we appreciate all they do. 💙

Want to spread the love even more? Feel free to get creative and find your own way to thank a teacher or staff member!

Let’s make this week ALL THAT and a bag of chips! 😎✨

🎉 Tattoo a Teacher is HERE! 🎉

We are selling tattoos during lunches this week, and students can purchase them for $1, $2, $4, or $6 and pick a teacher from the list to wear them on Friday!

The goal? Let’s get our teachers as TATTED UP as possible! 😄 The more tattoos, the better (and funnier) it will be!

This is all about having fun, building school spirit, and seeing our staff step outside their comfort zone a little.

Let’s do this, GCMS—who’s going to be the most tatted teacher?! 👀💥

On Thursday, our 7th grade math teacher, Mr. Sheldon, gave us all a fun (and very fitting!) perspective as we continue to ride the 6–7 trend with our students. 📊

For those who love a good countdown—not to rush time, but to celebrate the journey—he pointed out that by the end of the day, we had less than one-seventh of the school year left with students. That means we’ve officially made it through SIX SEVENTHS of the school year!

Good morning Ram Families,

Due to the threat of 60-70mph winds and the concerns around our high profile vehicles, Greene County CSD will be releasing 2 hours early on Thursday, April 23, 2026. There will be no after school activities and all current field trips are returning to their respective schools.

Thank you,

👷‍♂️ Future Builders in Action! 🏗️
Mrs. Hoover took a group of 8th graders to take a "deep dive" into their future! A group of our students headed to the Build My Future event at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines, and let’s just say... the future's looking bright (and busy!).

From getting hands-on with heavy machinery to exploring the high-stakes world of crime scene investigation, our students saw firsthand what it takes to power our community.

Here’s a snapshot of what they explored:

🛡️ Public Safety: Law Enforcement & Military

🛠️ Skilled Trades: Welding, Pipe Fitting, & Auto/Diesel Mechanics

🏥 Healthcare: Surgical Tech & Nursing

🚜 Construction: Heavy Machinery Operation

Events like these bridge the gap between the classroom and the "real world," showing our students that there are endless paths to success. Who knows? You might be looking at our future top surgeons, master welders, or chiefs of police!

Check out these photos of our students exploring their potential! 👇

Forty-eight students from Greene County High School traveled with industrial tech instructor Mr. Martin, work-based learning instructor Mrs. Garnett and iJag instructor Mrs. Hermansen to the Build My Future event at the Iowa State Fairgrounds on April 15. This annual event draws over 7000 students from the state of Iowa and is put on by the Iowa Skilled Trades.

Students were given the opportunity to visit with over 120 various exhibitors. Many of the exhibits offered hands-on experiences. Some of the opportunities available to students included: wiring a power pole, using a nail gun to secure flooring joists, pipe fitting, running a back hoe, observing a K-9 unit in action, operating a crane, completing DNA forensic work, performing a virtual operation, taking a race car tire off and putting it back on, and visiting with many branches of the Military and a multitude of first responders.

GCMS participated in The Battle of the Books again this year where students form teams and read the Iowa Teen Award Books. They read all the books as a group, studied and worked together to pass an online test to qualify for the Grand Battle. This year one team made it again! The 6th grade team "The Council of Cheesemon." Franklin, Sam, Ethan, Alyvia, Elijah, and Cooper will go to Ames on April 28th to compete once more against 15 other teams for the chance to be the ultimate winners and score our school the next set of Iowa Award books. All teams will get to meet an author of one of the books they read! Go Readers!!
