It's been a great school year of reading, but why stop there? Sign up for a summer of reading fun at the Jefferson Public Library!

Embark on a journey to the past of Jurassic proportions with "Unearth a Story", the Jefferson Public Library 2026 Youth Summer Reading Shin-Dig!
"Shin-dig"? Yes, you read that right. They're changing things up this year. Kids and teens who sign up receive a "field journal" and a sticker...then continue to receive small prizes throughout the summer for every 140 minutes that they log! The more you read, the closer you get to their grand prize drawings.
Even better, summer programs are now open to the public! Enjoy "excavation digs", visits from Blank Park Zoo and the Science Center of Iowa, after-hours movie nights, and more planned this summer.

The Greene County Class of 2026 made one final walk through the halls - celebrating memories, milestones, and the journey that brought them to graduation day.

Elementary and middle school students lined the hallways to cheer on the seniors as they made their way through the buildings one last time as Greene County students.

Yesterday in 5th grade Social Studies, students had the opportunity to participate in a "Reading Camp Out!" Students visited multiple campsites around the classroom, introducing them to our new mini-unit on the Civil Rights Movement. They read with their groups about key leaders and events of the movement by campfire light. Our students completely immersed themselves in these stories and shared their learning as a class community!

Today we celebrate our amazing 5th grade students as they complete the D.A.R.E. program! We are proud of the lessons they’ve learned about making safe and responsible choices, showing leadership, and building confidence for the future.

As part of the D.A.R.E. program, each 5th grade student writes an essay reflecting on what D.A.R.E. has meant to them. Officer Mark Wolterman selects one student each year to receive a special award for their essay. Congratulations to this year’s winner, Cameron M.!

A special thank you to Officer Mark Wolterman and the Jefferson Police Department for your continued partnership, support, and dedication to our students through this program. We are also incredibly grateful to the Greene County Sheriff's Office for their support in helping make D.A.R.E. possible year after year.

Great work to all of our 5th graders on this accomplishment! 🎉👏
