Our career exploration kicked off in October when our entire 8th-grade class visited the campus of Iowa Central Community College (ICCC). Students got to see a college campus, learn about different programs, participate in hands-on learning in a career pathway of their choosing, and start thinking about "what's next" to help plan for high school.
But that's not all! A small group of students also had the amazing opportunity to attend the Building Skilled Trades Expo in Des Moines. They got hands-on experience with in-demand careers and learned directly from professionals in fields like construction, electrical, welding, and more! 🛠️
We are so proud to provide these opportunities for our students to find their passion!

Last week, Ellen Brown from Farm Bureau of Greene and Boone County joined Mrs. Hoyle’s 6th grade social studies class for a lively discussion on the pros and cons of GMOs! Students split into teams, did their research, and jumped into a healthy debate
Ellen also shared the importance of understanding both sides of an argument and how to have respectful, informed conversations — skills that go way beyond the classroom!
We can’t wait to welcome her back in December for even more Ag in the Classroom fun! #AgInTheClassroom #FarmBureau #MiddleSchoolDebate #GreeneCountyProud

They explored many aspects of computer science. The students had six exploration rotations - Squishy Circuits, where students worked with open and closed circuits, Micro Bits, where students created code, and Fruity Instruments, where students worked with a closed conduction circuit. They also "Coded a Cookie" by giving explicit directions for frosting it, used binary code to create a bracelet that spelled "rams," and investigated AI intelligence.
A big thank you to the Iowa State Extension Office and to everyone who helped make this a fun and successful day!

The entire Greene County Community School District wants to send a huge thank you to the incredible team from the Greene County Cattlemen!
We sincerely appreciate you taking the time to grill hamburgers and hot dogs for our staff and families during our Parent-Teacher Conferences on November 3.
We truly value our partnership. Your efforts continue to support and enhance the experiences of our students, their families, and our staff across the whole district. Thank you for everything you do!
A student in Mrs. Duncan's classroom put both his math and social skills into action with their Treat Trolley! After staff submitted their order forms, he carefully reviewed orders, filled them, and delivered delicious snacks and drinks to our middle school staff.
Not only did he practice important skills, but he also brightened everyone’s day along the way! 🌟

Go Rams! 🐏

Yesterday, our GCMS students got hands-on with crucial bus safety skills, led by Transportation Director Shawn Demoss! Safety is our top priority, and we're proud of our students for taking this training seriously.
Students gained valuable knowledge on general bus safety and emergency preparedness, including:
- Evacuation procedures (front, rear, side/window, and even rooftop hatch! )
- Locations of the fire extinguisher and med kit for emergencies.
- How to apply the emergency brake.
- The importance of exterior warning lights and the stop arm, and the serious penalties for breaking those laws!
Students successfully practiced the front door evacuation—a core skill for getting off the bus quickly and safely in a critical situation. We believe that practice and knowledge empower our students!
A big thank you to Mr. Demoss for leading this essential training! Let's keep safety first, always!
