❄️ 12 Days Before Winter Break! ❄️
We’re kicking off 12 festive spirit days starting Thursday, December 4th! These dress-up days are totally optional, but we can’t wait to see our students show off their holiday creativity and school spirit.
We’ll wrap it all up with a 2-hour early release on Friday, December 19th as we head into Winter Break!
Let’s make the next 12 days fun, festive, and full of GCMS pride!

Our 7th graders had a fantastic visit to the public library! Youth Services Director, Bailey, welcomed students and introduced them to a variety of literacy genres. After learning about each one, students voted for their favorites — and their choices will help guide new additions to the Young Adult section!
Some students also signed up for the library’s digital service, giving them access to books right from home.
They wrapped up their visit in the Children’s Section, where students explored the puppet area, played games, and got creative at the activity table. So much hands-on fun and learning! 🎨🤹♂️
A huge thank you to the library team for an engaging and memorable experience for our GCMS students!

🦃🚗 Nothing like a surprise turkey sighting to start the school day!
If you were a little alarmed pulling into car rider drop-off yesterday morning… don’t worry — that giant turkey roaming the sidewalk wasn’t wild at all!
He flew a little too close to the office, and we were able to “catch” him — turns out it was just our 8th grade math teacher, Mr. Bekkerus, spreading some pre-break joy!

Our amazing GCMS Student Council put on another high-energy, fun-filled pep rally today!
In a super close finish, 7th grade squeaked out the win by just 2 points over 5th grade! 🏆👏
Students competed in a series of challenges, including:
🧩 Assembling a 48-piece jumbo puzzle
🧠 Completing an easy sudoku puzzle
🏀 Taking a shot from half court
🥁 Trying to stay perfectly on beat with a drum strike challenge
Such a fun afternoon of teamwork, laughter, and school spirit! 💚🤍

Today in 5th grade literacy, we brought Among Us to the classroom for a fun and engaging day of learning! Our “tasks” included putting together a puzzle of Ms. Schulz, matching vocabulary words to their definitions, team-building to create the tallest tower, unscrambling sentences, and even reading a passage in silly voices.
Such a fun way to wrap up the week before break — lots of learning, teamwork, and laughter! 💛📚🎉

Classes will resume on Monday, December 1st.
We are so thankful for each of our GCMS families and hope you enjoy a safe, happy, and restful break! 🦃💛

Our career exploration kicked off in October when our entire 8th-grade class visited the campus of Iowa Central Community College (ICCC). Students got to see a college campus, learn about different programs, participate in hands-on learning in a career pathway of their choosing, and start thinking about "what's next" to help plan for high school.
But that's not all! A small group of students also had the amazing opportunity to attend the Building Skilled Trades Expo in Des Moines. They got hands-on experience with in-demand careers and learned directly from professionals in fields like construction, electrical, welding, and more! 🛠️
We are so proud to provide these opportunities for our students to find their passion!

Last week, Ellen Brown from Farm Bureau of Greene and Boone County joined Mrs. Hoyle’s 6th grade social studies class for a lively discussion on the pros and cons of GMOs! Students split into teams, did their research, and jumped into a healthy debate
Ellen also shared the importance of understanding both sides of an argument and how to have respectful, informed conversations — skills that go way beyond the classroom!
We can’t wait to welcome her back in December for even more Ag in the Classroom fun! #AgInTheClassroom #FarmBureau #MiddleSchoolDebate #GreeneCountyProud

They explored many aspects of computer science. The students had six exploration rotations - Squishy Circuits, where students worked with open and closed circuits, Micro Bits, where students created code, and Fruity Instruments, where students worked with a closed conduction circuit. They also "Coded a Cookie" by giving explicit directions for frosting it, used binary code to create a bracelet that spelled "rams," and investigated AI intelligence.
A big thank you to the Iowa State Extension Office and to everyone who helped make this a fun and successful day!
🎉 Quarter 1 Attendance Honors! 🎉
We’re excited to share an updated list of students who had amazing attendance in Quarter 1! Thanks to our Infinite Campus guru, Emily Gannon, we were able to get the correct report—and we’ve added even more students to celebrate!
🏆 Perfect Attendance – Present all day, every day!
✨ Honorable Attendance – Attended at least 90% of school days.
Way to go, Rams! Your dedication to showing up every day matters. Let’s keep the momentum going—every day counts!
