🎨✨ Our talented GCMS creative art students are showcasing their amazing work! Here’s what they had to say about their pieces:

Delaney P-: “I was inspired by my grandma who came to live with us after my grandpa passed away. There’s a cardinal that always comes to her tree, and when it chirps, it sounds like it’s saying ‘Rita’—her name—so we said it was my grandpa’s spirit animal.” ❤️

Lincoln B: “I like dinosaurs and had a lot of fun with this project!” 🦖

Annabelle S: “I did a kangaroo because I wanted to try something new. I don’t know a lot about kangaroos, and I love the desert landscape.” 🦘🏜️

We are so proud of our students for exploring their creativity and sharing their stories! Keep shining, Rams! 🎨💛

🌿 School of the Wild 2025 🌿

Last week, our Greene County and Paton-Churdan 6th graders had the incredible opportunity to participate in School of the Wild at Spring Lake Park and Scheuermann Prairie!

This program, through the University of Iowa’s College of Education, gets kids outdoors to learn about and appreciate the natural world. Our students spent the week immersed in hands-on learning about wetlands, prairies, archeology, and woodlands. From hiking and canoeing to archery, fishing, and even using atlatls, the experiences were both fun and educational!

We are so grateful for the many partners who made this experience possible:

Greene County Conservation Board

Greene County Soil & Water Conservation District

Iowa Department of Natural Resources

School of the Wild

Friends of Greene County

Iowa PBS

Greene County Extension & Outreach – Iowa State University

And a special thank you to Jefferson Hy-Vee for providing bottled water, cookies, and bananas to keep our students fueled throughout the week!

This was a week full of learning, teamwork, and appreciation for the outdoors—memories our students won’t soon forget. 💚

🌍💧 Our 7th grade Literacy and Social Studies classes teamed up this week for a powerful real-life learning experience!

In Literacy, students are reading A Long Walk to Water, while in Social Studies they are studying Sudan, water quality, and water scarcity. To bring their learning together, students participated in a simulation to better understand the challenges faced by people like Nya in the novel.

When asked, “What did you like about our simulation?”, students shared:
👉 “Getting a workout.”
👉 “Going outside.”
👉 “This is not a great simulation because Nya had it way harder.”

We are so proud of our students for making these real-world connections and recognizing the resilience of others. 💙 #RamPride #WhyNotGreeneCounty
