Greene County High School graduating seniors walked through the elementary and middle school this morning for the annual "Senior Walk". What happens when you turn Mrs. Julie Kennedy and her Interior Design class loose in your new office space and conference room? They take two rooms surrounded by plain block walls and turn them into an office and a conference room that is welcoming for students and community members.
So how did the students come up with their plans? First, they interviewed the client, Ms. Green, to see what she needed. They wanted the office to represent her and what she liked also which includes succulent plants and macrame. They measured the room and discussed what furniture they should include. They rearranged the furniture on their graph paper to see what worked best and to maximize the space that was available.
The students selected colors to match Iowa Central Community College and then went shopping both in person and online. Once the furniture started arriving, it all started coming together.
Interior design students who played a key role in this project are: Makayla Byerly, Rachel Gordon, Lucas Jablonski, and Brooke Williams.
Ms. Green stated, “Mrs. Kennedy and her students created the perfect office and conference room for our Greene County Career Academy. Students feel comfortable and welcome stopping into visit and talk about our career pathways. I am so happy with their work!”
Greene County Community School will be holding the monthly board meeting at the admin building (101 Ram Drive, Jefferson, IA) this evening beginning at 5:15 PM. The public is welcome to attend. The event will also be livestreamed on YouTube (link below) and on channel 22/422 for Jefferson Telecom customers.

Attention All Greene County and Paton-Churdan High School Students: Join us Tomorrow During Your Lunch for the Triton Enrollment Day. Come sign up for the career academy with Iowa Central's Sara Scharf and Career Academy Specialist Teresa Green during your lunch on Wednesday. Sara will be handing out cookies and some Iowa Central gifts for those who bring their completed career academy application or for those who inquire about the career academy opportunities available to them for next year.
Greene County CSD will be livestreaming tonight's Senior Awards Night Ceremony. The ceremony is scheduled to start at 7:00 pm in the high school auditorium. The livestream will take place on the GCCSD YouTube page and also on channel 22 and 422 for Jefferson Telecom subscribers. Due to wet field conditions in Des Moines, tonight's boys soccer match with Grand View Christian has been canceled. There will be no make up as there are no common dates available to for us to play before tournaments start.
If your high school student has failed a class during the 22-23 school year and would like to do credit recovery this summer, please contact the teacher who teaches the class prior to the last day of school. The 4x400 quartet of Natalie Heupel, Olivia Shannon, Katrina Heupel, and Kaycee Pittman are conference champions in a race that came down to the wire!
The 4x100 quartet of Natalie Heupel, Olivia Shannon, Katrina Heupel, and Kamryn Sanders are conference champions and new conference record holders for the relay (51.24).
Payton Kokenge was the Heart of Iowa Conference Champion in the HJ. She jumped 5'02" - which was also a personal best jump.
Natalie Heupel was the Heart of Iowa Conference Champion in the 400M.
Kaycee Pittman was the Heart of Iowa Conference Champion in the 800M. She also broke the school record; running 2:29.30.
Emma Hoyle was the Heart of Iowa Conference Champion in the discus.
These students just completed a career pathway in the Greene County Career Academy. We celebrated together with a breakfast this morning. We discussed senior scholarships, work-based learning scholarships, and seniors wearing a blue cord at graduation representing a completed pathway. We also discussed pathways for next year and orientation for the fall with the underclassmen. Thank you to these students for a great year!
Registration is OPEN for the 23-24 school year! Yeah, get it over with so you don't have to rush in August.
